Do you choose theme words for your year? I started doing this a few years ago and it helps me stay focused on what I want my year to look and feel like. It helps me gauge new opportunities and potential products and services to release. If the opportunity fits within the theme, then I’ll consider it. If not, then I can release it without guilt or letting it take up valuable brain space and energy. Here are my words for 2015:
Purpose– I’m becoming clearer on my life’s purpose. I’m getting more comfortable not worrying about what others are thinking or doing and instead I’m staying focused on my calling. My faith is very important to me, and this year I’m stepping out and devoting a lot of time to a passion project which has and will continue to be fulfilling spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I know there’s a finite amount of time available each day and time I devote to this project will reduce my available time for business, but I’m perfectly happy and willing to outsource parts of my businesses to free up time for this project.
If a project, product or client opportunity crosses my path that just doesn’t mesh with my purpose and calling, then I will pass on it. I know that making decisions based on how well something fits with my purpose will bless me, my family and businesses in ways I simply cannot imagine right now.
Calm– my businesses (thankfully and as a result of a LOT of hard work!) grew quickly in 2014. As a result, there were many times where I scrambled to keep up and I was more reactive than I’d wanted to be, which led to stress and a more frantic pace of working. I’d prefer to be proactive and prepared so that work can be fun and not stressful.
The upside to the rapid growth was that it forced me to change some procedures to become more streamlined and efficient. These were areas that could’ve been improved long ago, but I didn’t see that the system was ineffective until it was stretched to capacity. Now as I continue to scale my businesses and bring on additional help, I’m ensuring that (for the most part – at least the pieces that I can control) running my businesses will be a calm, peaceful and fulfilling process. This helps me to enjoy the work I do, serve clients and customers better and it ensures that I’m fulfilling my life’s purpose.
Personally, I’ll continue working to infuse calm into my daily life, my rituals and of course, my relationships. A relaxed, easy interaction with loved ones is best and when I’m calm inside, it’s reflected in how I talk to / interact with people in my life. And we’d all prefer to avoid someone who is a walking, talking stress ball, right? 🙂
Give– I am the type of person that LOVES to give! Gift giving for birthdays or holidays is hard because I just want the recipient to enjoy the present I’ve picked out and watching them open a gift is so exciting for me that I hate to wait. I’ve been known to buy gifts and give them early, and end up still buying ‘official’ Christmas presents, because I didn’t want my loved ones to wait to enjoy their presents. My grandfather was the same way, and I’m glad that’s a trait I inherited from him!
I love to give extra bonuses, surprises and gifts to clients and customers as well. When thinking about what would make business really fun for me this year, it was the opportunity to give to my community, my customers and clients. So I’m mapping out all sorts of free trainings, bonuses and goodies to help you build your business this year. Clients that work with me 1:1 will have even more fun, unannounced rewards. I’ll continually be on the lookout for ways that I can give and serve others. Knowing that I’m giving as much as I can, blessing and surprising others makes me happy and goes back to fulfilling my life’s purpose.
I’m also going to focus on running my businesses more efficiently so that I can reduce spending and maximize my profits. I have a number of charitable causes that I support, from orphan care/adoption to domestic violence prevention and services to breast cancer, childhood cancer and more. The more money I make through my work means the more I can give back to these causes that are so important to me.
I love how these three theme words flow into and support each other. I’m excited to see how 2015 will unfold as I focus on these three theme words!
