This company is all about doing good and serving. Serving you, the customer in providing top-notch, quality training for you to learn how to make (and sell, if you desire) a variety of bath and body products. Serving our instructors by providing another revenue stream for their own businesses and finally, serving the world at large.
A portion of the proceeds from each sale here at Bath and Body Academy will go to help orphans in Uganda, providing for their basic needs including food, shelter, clothing and education.
Why orphans and why Uganda? Well, orphan care has been an issue dear to my heart for as long as I can remember. I’ve also known that I’m meant to adopt at some point in my life and we will expand our family through adoption when the time is right. In the meantime, there are many children out there who need love and support and this is a way that I can give back.
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa, about the size of Kentucky and Tennessee combined, with a population of over 33 million. Winston Churchill loved to visit and dubbed Uganda ‘the pearl of Africa’. It is a beautiful country striving to overcome its turbulent and troubled history. Here are some basic statistics:
- The average Ugandan earns just under the equivalent of $500 USD per year.
- About 35% of the population lives below the poverty line (see the statistic above – their poverty line is much different than our own).
- The World Food Programme estimates that over 30% of children are stunted from malnutrition, as chronic hunger is a problem in many communities.
- More than 940,000 people are living with HIV and AIDS and more than 1.2 million children have lost one or both parents to this disease.
I will be making my first trip to Uganda in October 2013 to serve at two orphanages, and I have an inkling that it won’t be my last trip there. 🙂 I’ll post more info about how your purchases are helping these precious kiddos in blog posts, but for now I’ll share pictures from Lela Barker’s recent trip and the children I’ll get to meet when we travel together this fall. Aren’t they precious?!?!?
Want to help support my upcoming trip and provide for these children? Contact me – I’d love to talk to you more about how you can help!
